Swift is the first product to allow professional-grade mobile site creation with a self-service Web-based tool. With Swift, you can be as creative as you want to be. Extend your blog or journal into the mobile world, organize an event, capture data, disseminate information... the possibilities are endless! You can edit and update your site as often as you want. You can do all this without knowing a lick of HTML code. No downloading of software is necessary to view a Swift site; your visitors will be able to access your site from any mobile phone browser. Plus, Swift is fully hosted and backed by the expertise of Proteus. And did we mention it's free?
Yes! It is free for you to create a Swift site. It is also free for anyone to access it, although some mobile operators may charge for data access, depending on the user's data plan. We are able to offer the product for free by serving targeted, third-party ads through Swift sites. This ad revenue supports our development, hosting and marketing costs and allows us to keep making it better and better.
We offer a "Pro" version for $10/month if you'd like to remove the advertising from your site. Log in to your account, and click on "Account Info" to upgrade.
Swift features an advanced device detection capability that will render your Swift site properly on almost any phone in the market today.
Swift formats your mobile Internet site to look great on the iPhone (and iPod Touch!). Our advanced device detection technology serves up the proper logo and styles to make your site look its best on almost any phone in the market today.
They sure are. Once your site is live, it will be searchable by bots from Google and other search engines. Depending on the type of content or text you include in your site, your site will show up in mobile search results for relevant keywords.
WAP stands for Wireless Application Protocol, the global standard for the presentation and delivery of wireless information on mobile phones. Mobile Internet sites, or WAP sites, are sites specifically to be accessed via the WAP browser on the mobile phone. The vast majority of phones in the market today support WAP browsing, and sites created through Swift are automatically formatted to look great on all of them.
Real Simple Syndication (RSS) is a family of Web feed formats used by millions of Web sites for publishing frequently updated content such as blog entries, news headlines, podcasts and other information. Swift accepts both RSS and Atom feeds. You simply enter the URL of the feed when creating a page for your site, and the content will be automatically updated on your mobile site.
While we would love to be good friends with all Swift users, in order to keep this product free, we are unable to provide free support to everyone at this time. However, we offer a user-supported Forum, and we promise keep the Support/FAQs section as robust as possible. If you have a suggestion for improvement, please tell us through our Feedback Form, and we promise to listen.
We think the free version of Swift offers an amazing product at no cost. However, we realize that some folks don't want to show advertising on their mobile site. Therefore, we offer the Pro version at $10/month to remove the advertising. Please click on "Account Info" to switch between Free and Pro.
Of course. Just go to your Account Info page and change to the free version. We'll stop charging you.
At this time, each account may create up to 3 sites.
To delete a site, log in to your Swift account, click on "View Sites", then click on the "Delete" button next to that site. To delete your account, click on "Account Info", then "Delete Account". Please be 100% sure you want to do this, as your site and account information will not be recoverable after deletion and your URL will be available for another user.
Proteus is committed to keeping our servers up and running at all times. If, however, you cannot access your Swift site, please let us know through our Feedback Form, and we will take a look right away. Before you do so, please verify that you have entered a valid RSS feed and that you have an active homepage.
Please let us know which phone you are using and the site you are trying to access through our Feedback Form. We are committed to making Swift sites look good on every phone out there.
Not at this point; although we'll consider this feature in the future. For now, just know that we're diligent about coding the backend to make sites render as best possible on the vast majority of phones.
Graphics and logos should be in JPEG or GIF format. To improve user experience, it is recommended to keep the file size of your graphics as small as possible and no more than 176 pixels wide. However, Swift will automatically reduce the size of your Site Logo, so those should be at least 400 pixels wide. Swift does not re-size graphics at this time.
We allow the following tags by default in the Text Component:
<img> , <a>, <i> , <b> , <br>
These are tags that we have tested extensively on phones and feel will render correctly. We do allow you to turn off the "Trusted HTML" feature in the Text component to allow you to enter additional HTML tags, but if you turn off this feature we can't guarantee your site will render properly on all phones.
We have included formatting options that we know will render properly on the vast majority of phones. Based on our experience, we know that spacing, font size and horizontal rules do not render consistently or at all across all phones. However, we will allow you to include your own HTML coding, but please do so at your own risk. If you choose this option, we recommend that you test your site on as many popular phones as possible.
You can show links to video files that you are hosting on your Swift site. Due to the different formats that various phones support, you will need to serve the appropriate file to individual users. We are working on a comprehensive video solution for the near future. Stay tuned!
Please check to make sure that your RSS or Atom feed is valid. You can use the validation tool at www.feedvalidator.org.
Swift accepts both RSS and Atom feeds.
Most likely, your blog or content management software is not displaying "full articles". This is usually a preference that needs to be set in your main blog preferences. Please consult your blog provider's documentation to find the location where this change needs to be made.
The logo and footer are elements that we allow you to set once and then find on every page of your site. In order to maintain consistency, we anchor these elements to the top and bottom of the page. You don't need to have either element on your Swift site if you don't want to.
You will be able to view page views and unique visitors by day, week and month.
The free version of Swift is funded by advertising which supports our hosting costs and future development to keep the service top notch. If you do not want to include third-party advertising, you can upgrade to the Pro version for $10/month under "Account Info".
Please contact us through our Feedback Form if you are experiencing an issue with the ads being displayed, and we will work with you on a solution.
We work with a range of advertising aggregators for the ads that are displayed on Swift sites. Please contact us using the Feedback Form, and we can help find the right fit for your advertising needs.
Have you built a great Swift site, but you're not completely happy with the yoursite.swiftmob.com URL? Swift now has the ability to let you use a URL like www.yoursite.com instead.
Before we go any further, we need to stress that this is a power user feature. We can't support the variety of issues that come with setting up a domain name. If the following doesn't make a lot of sense to you, grab that nerdy cousin who answers all of your family's computer questions before you move on.
You can buy a domain from several companies, called registrars. Here are some choices:
Here's the trickiest part. After you've purchased a domain, you need to change the A-record to point to the following IP Address:
72.5.158.71
Here are links to instructions from some of the registrars:
After you've updated your domain's A-record, log in to your Swift account and click Site Info in the main navigation. You'll see a button that says "I have a custom domain" in the Edit Your Mobile Site: General Info section. Click that and put your new domain (i.e. yoursite.com) in the input box. Click Save.
It can take as long as 72 hours for the domain change to take effect, though it often takes less time.
You'll know if your domain is working if you see your Swift site when you go to your new domain.
